\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The Folk Ensemble \u201cSalduv\u0117\u201d of \u0160iauliai City Culture Centre \u201cLaipt\u0173 Galerija\u201d was founded in 1986. The ensemble is named after the historical hillfort located on the eastern outskirts of \u0160iauliai, known as Salduv\u0117 Hill.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u0160iauliai, as the center of the district, lies on the border of two Lithuanian ethnographic regions \u2014 Auk\u0161taitija and Samogitia (\u017demaitija) \u2014 which is why the majority of Salduv\u0117\u2019s repertoire consists of Auk\u0161taitian and Samogitian songs, dances, instrumental music, games, stories, as well as calendar songs, romances, and contemporary interpretations of folklore from other Lithuanian ethnographic regions.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Salduv\u0117 performs, preserves, and promotes Lithuanian folk music, dance, and storytelling not only in \u0160iauliai but throughout Lithuania. The ensemble regularly participates in international folklore festivals and Lithuanian Song Festivals. The ensemble has successfully performed abroad in Latvia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Portugal, Spain, Slovakia, Greece, Turkey, Germany, Poland, and Bulgaria.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Salduv\u0117 has frequently appeared on Lithuanian television and has released six music albums. In recognition of its outstanding artistic achievements, Salduv\u0117 received the \u201cAukso Pauk\u0161t\u0117\u201d award in 2008 as the Best City Folklore Ensemble in Lithuania.<\/p>\n
