\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The Folk Ensemble \u201c\u0160atrija\u201d of Luok\u0117 Culture Centre, Tel\u0161iai District Municipality, has been active since 1972, when a group of singers, brought together by Lithuanian language teacher Joana Vaigauskait\u0117-Misi\u016bnien\u0117 from the then Luok\u0117 Secondary School, first performed during a Shrovetide carnival held in the town.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 In 2022, the ensemble celebrated its 50th anniversary and prepared a concert program titled \u201cFrom the First Cry to the Last Breath\u201d for the occasion. The current director Vilija Bene\u0161ien\u0117 and the present ensemble members believe that the secret to the group\u2019s longevity is the sincere and close relationship between the director and the members.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Today, the ensemble consists of 18 participants, aged between 53 and 75 years.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 More than a decade ago, the folklore ensemble learned to sing the unique \u201c\u017demaiti\u0161ka votyva\u201d \u2014 hymns performed in the Samogitian dialect \u2014 though this is only a small part of the group’s repertoire. The ensemble mainly performs continuous and other Samogitian songs, dances, circle dances, and storytelling from the Luok\u0117 region.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Most of their performances take place outside their local area \u2014 the ensemble is frequently invited to present their Samogitian concert program in various regions of Lithuania.<\/p>\n
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 The group participates in folk festivals and celebrations almost every year.
\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Every year, the ensemble members also go on educational trips within Lithuania or abroad.<\/p>\n
