\nThe 4th of July was a special day on which the great festival \u201cFlower of the Sun\u201d began to unfold. As the festive procession began, it was hard to take one\u2019s eyes off the multi-coloured participants of the festival, who shared their smiles, good mood, great music, and dance rhythm. During the opening ceremony the performers greeted the audience, and the organizers, sponsors, partners, and friends of the festival \u201cFlower of the Sun\u201d were introduced.
Everyone’s hearts were touched by the handmade kankl\u0117s made by Albertas Martinaitis in memory of Zita Kelmickait\u0117, Lithuanian ethnomusicologist and long-time head of the jury of the \u201cFlower of the Sun\u201d competition. The kankl\u0117s were presented to Daiva Vy\u010dinien\u0117, a Lithuanian ethnomusicologist, professor and teacher at the Lithuanian Academy of Performing Arts, winner of the National Prize, performer of traditional Lithuanian songs, and Doctor of Science. The handing over of the kankl\u0117s to the professor will be done by Loreta Sungailien\u0117.
On the main stage of the festival there were performances from ensembles and performers from SWEDEN (\u201cLunds Studenters Folkdanslag\u201d), PANAMA (\u201cRitmos y Ra\u00edces Paname\u00f1as Ballet Folkclorico\u201d), POLAND (\u201cGrze\u015b\u201d), SPAIN (\u201cEl Redoble\u201d), UKRAINE (\u201cHalychyna\u201d), CZECH REPUBLIC (\u201cSlezan\u201d), PORTUGAL (\u201cRancho t\u00edpico da Amorosa\u201d), HUNGARY (\u201cTiszavir\u00e1g\u201d) and LITHUANIA (Loreta Sungailiene, Damil\u0117 and Lukas Bagdonavi\u010diai, \u201cAidija\u201d, \u201cSalduv\u0117\u201d, \u201cSaul\u0117\u201d, \u201cJonis\u201d).
The ethno-playing space invited the young and older audience of the festival to remember traditional Lithuanian folk games. An unexpected surprise occurred – a sweet ice cream promotion by the festival’s sponsor-partner \u201cNorfa\u201d made the hearts of the spectators happy as they enjoyed the opening concert of the \u201cFlower of the Sun\u201d.
