LITHUANIA 🇱🇹 ANYKŠČIAI CULTURE CENTRE’S NATIONAL AND HISTORICAL DANCE ENSEMBLE “GOJUS”

TARPTAUTINIS FOLKLORO KONKURSAS-FESTIVALIS “SAULĖS ŽIEDAS”

The “Gojus” dance ensemble of the Anykščiai Culture Centre in Lithuania was founded in 1991. The name of the ensemble is symbolic: gojus (a grove) is the most beautiful place in the forest, where magnificent trees and plants grow, the most beautiful flowers bloom, and birdsongs can be heard. The members of the ensemble are just as colorful and diverse in character — students, people of various professions and educational backgrounds, all seeking to stand out and preserve their national identity in a rapidly developing and modernizing society.

The ensemble places great emphasis on authentic national costumes and folklore traditions, which reflect the 19th-century Lithuanian spirit.

“Gojus” also has a royal historical dance program, which features wonderful Renaissance-era dances and music. The performances are unique due to the recreated royal costumes from the 15th–16th centuries. The ensemble also possesses a replica of the royal costume worn by Queen Barbara of Lithuania at royal feasts many years ago.
