Formerly KUD Metkos, SARTID KUD, and since late 2005 known as the City Cultural and Artistic Society SMEDEREVO, the ensemble is proudly named after the city where it was founded on February 7, 1946, marking nearly 80 years of active work.
Over the past eight decades, the Society has attracted many members who have taken part in various groups. Moreover, over the years, the folklore group has gained prominence due to its performances and achievements, eventually becoming the current Folk Dance and Song Ensemble SMEDEREVO, which now operates as part of the Cultural Center of Smederevo.
Throughout the entire history of the Society, the focus has always been on children and youth, with the aim of fostering cultural habits, needs, and knowledge. We can proudly say that several thousand young people over the past eight decades have participated in various forms of creativity, mostly traditional dances, songs, and music.
The Society currently gathers around 400 members, divided into several groups: the first ensemble, junior pioneer ensemble, senior pioneer ensemble, veteran ensemble, two area ensembles in Vodanj and MC Leštar, folk orchestra, female singing group, and male singing group.
The ensemble has won many prizes both in the country and abroad!
