LATVIA 🇱🇻 FOLK MUSIC ENSEMBLE “KOKLE”

TARPTAUTINIS FOLKLORO KONKURSAS-FESTIVALIS “SAULĖS ŽIEDAS”

The kokle is the Latvian version of a plucked string instrument, similar to the zither. Along with the Lithuanian kanklės, Estonian kannele, and Finnish kantele, it belongs to the family of Baltic psalteries. Latvia’s musical traditions reflect a deep respect for nature, work, and the rhythms of life.

For centuries, folk songs were passed down from one generation to another through oral tradition. Folk songs and dainas bring people together across time, distance, and generations. They help preserve values, language, and identity in an ever-changing global world. From everyday routines to sacred rituals, music plays a central role in Latvian heritage and memory.
