The ensemble began its activity in 1998 at Šiauliai’s 16th Secondary School (now “Saulėtekis” Gymnasium) with 15 members. The concert programs consist of folk songs, games, and instrumental music from the Aukštaitija and Samogitia regions. The members play instruments made by folk artisans as well as instruments they crafted themselves: skudučiai, lumzdeliai, kanklės, drum, and basedlė. The group also participated in the filming of basedlė making at the workshop of instrument craftsman Albertas Martinaitis.
“Vieversėlis” performs at city and national festivals, seminars, conferences, cultural events, and calendar celebrations. In the summer, the ensemble participates in creative camps.
The group implements ethnocultural projects, during which ethnographic material is collected on Lithuanian homes, toys, and musical instruments.
They regularly participate in folk dance evenings, and every February, in cooperation with Šiauliai Culture Centre, they organize the “Vieversis” dance evening.
