On July 6th, Mindaugas Coronation Day, Žarėnai Park became a true symbol of cultural encounter and unity. Surrounded by breathtaking nature, the park hosted a special concert by participants of the international folklore competition-festival “The Flower of the Sun”. The event captivated the audience not only with its musical program but also with its emotionally charged atmosphere.
Distinguished guests opened the celebration with heartfelt greetings — Member of the Lithuanian Parliament Eimantas Kirkutis and Šiauliai District Municipality Council Member Judita Šakočiuvienė. Their speeches emphasized the importance of national identity, unity, and cultural preservation, further enhancing the spirit of the celebration. Their words reminded everyone that July 6th is not just a historical date but a living testament to our shared values and connection.
The highlight of the event came when guests from faraway lands took the stage — “Vatan Music Group” from Azerbaijan and the folklore ensemble “Danzas Burgalesas Justo del Río” from Spain. Both groups delivered extraordinary performances, blending traditional music, graceful dance, and deep cultural heritage.
The Azerbaijani group enchanted the audience with their oriental mystique and heartfelt melodies, while the Spanish ensemble won hearts with their energetic, passionate dances and vibrant traditional costumes.
These performers not only showcased the beauty of their national cultures but also reminded us that folklore is a living language of the heart — one that unites people beyond words. It was a day when the spirit of many nations beat as one shared rhythm.
“The event left a lasting impression on every spectator — it was more than just a concert; it was a cultural celebration that opened a window to the world while strengthening our love for our homeland,” said Sigutė Butvidienė, cultural events organizer from Šakyna.
Special recognition goes to the Žarėnai community for their unity and hospitality. Guests were treated to hearty and delicious traditional Žarėnai-region meals, which were highly praised by the visitors for both flavor and the hosts’ culinary creativity.
Three other towns in the district also welcomed international guests of the “The Flower of the Sun” festival. In Meškuičiai, performers from Spain and Azerbaijan took the stage, while in Kužiai, the folk dance ensemble “Kincső” from Budapest, Hungary, showcased their dynamic dances. The residents of Sauginių also had the chance to enjoy the Hungarian group’s performance.
The participation of international groups across the Šiauliai district was made possible thanks to the dedicated efforts of the staff at the Šiauliai District Municipality Cultural Center.
